The winners in the first “Ring Out for Art” contest were announced on the Plaza Stage during FIFTY Fest.
Deb McGinn, chair of Jefferson Matters: Main Street’s Tower View Team, said 347 votes were cast in the People’s Choice judging. Cash prizes were provided by Home State Bank.
Winner was Tim Adams of Webster City with his large concrete and steel sculpture “Resonance 1”. He received $2,000.
Second place went to Whitney Kibbie of Emmetsburg for her lyrical “Resonance.” She received $1,000. Kibbie is an art education major at the University of Northern Iowa. She will graduate in December.
Third place went to “Steel Rider,” designed by Randy Monthei and welded by Chris Milligan for the Greene County Motorcycle Charity. All components in the fabricated motorcycle were from Monthei’s family’s home place, Monthei said. The group will donate its $500 cash prize to a charity not yet determined.
The three winning sculptures have been moved from the north side of the courthouse to the plaza area on the south side. The Tower View Team plans that they remain on the plaza until the entries in the 2017 “Ring Out for Art” competitions are put on display.
